Our Story

Our History

The Messianic Jewish presence in Canada has roots extending back hundreds of years.

Prominent Canadian Messianic Jews appeared as early as the eighteenth century, including “General Wolfe’s Jew” Alexander Schomberg (1720–1804), Charles Freshman (1819–1880), and Bishop Isaac Hellmuth (1820–1901), founder of the University of Western Ontario.

Groups of Jewish believers in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and other Canadian cities began meeting regularly in 1915. Holocaust survivor Jacob Jocz (1906–1983) later led Toronto’s Nathaniel Institute and served as President of the International Messianic Jewish Alliance.

As Messianic congregations continued to grow, an independent Canadian national Alliance was officially formed in 1975, enabling Jewish believers in Canada to participate fully at the international level.

MJAC Today

The national head office has been located in Calgary since 1998. The current President is Cal Goldberg.

Prominent Jewish believers begin contributing to Canadian religious and civic life.

Communities gather

Jewish believers meet regularly in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and elsewhere.

1975

MJAC is officially formed

A national independent Alliance is established for Jewish believers across Canada.

The national head office is established in Calgary.

Who can join the MJAC?

Both Jewish and non-Jewish believers in Yeshua (Jesus) are welcome to become members and associate members of the MJAC.

Whether you are part of a Messianic synagogue, congregation or church, you have an important role to play in this unique prophetic movement.
